I see many people come through my door who are beaten by life. They feel overwhelmed, depressed, emotional, stressed and sometimes just unable to cope anymore. Offering them therapy to overcome a smoking habit or lose weight is simply pointless when they are already struggling with other pressures in their life.
You see, when you don’t have a happy balanced life you become vulnerable to bad habits hitch-hiking your life and pretending to be a viable way to combat loneliness or soothe a stressed mind. In my experience most (but not all) people who have a bad habit problem have developed it as a way to self medicate or even as a method of self harming because they feel worthless and don’t value themselves.
These problems are often overlooked by health professionals, weight loss classes and nicotine therapies. They tell you to pop a pill, go on a gruelling diet or stick a patch on your arm, and as our bad feelings develop further over time we end up confused as to why we got the problem in the first place. Sadly, we also end up with further issues too due to their advice. You see, these bad habits that we can develop are often seen as ‘the problem’ when in fact, they are a symptom of the problem.
Now don’t get me wrong, I am perfectly aware that few of us lead perfect lives, and we all have stresses on a day to day basis. We all get frustrated, bored (which is another kind of stress) or other people can irritate us. In order to have a happy balanced life you don’t need to eradicate every single stress in your life….I wish! It is more about dealing with that day to day stress in a way which is healthy and doesn’t escalate the stress. (Smoking, bad eating, alcohol and drugs all exacerbate the stress because it simply puts another thing on your plate to worry about, as well as all the skewed chemical reactions they create in your mind)
One of my missions in creating Hypno Satori is to help people live healthy, fulfilling lives and this is what my ‘Happy Balance’ idea is based upon.
Let me ask you a question. If you see a flower wilting in the hot sun, it’s earth home bone dry….would you wonder why it was wilting? No, of course you wouldn’t. You would know that it simply needs a bit of shade and water.
Like plants, we need things too. We need to be happy in order to thrive and succeed. When we achieve a happy balance we are able to blossom and grow just like the plant.
Sometimes, just reminding ourselves of what we need can be enough, sometimes further help may be required to meet them.
